Bears Hockey News - End of Season Edition

March 2025 - Issue 23

The 2024-25 season has come to an end for most of us—some a little sooner than others. Believe it or not, though, two teams are still playing this weekend! Both Bears 10B and 12AA made it to the NORCAL Final and are advancing to the CAHA State Playoffs. While many of us have been enjoying a break from the rink, some kids and families are still in the thick of competition.

This will be a short update to celebrate a few of the Oakland Bears' achievements this season. After this, you won’t hear from me for awhile. Before I go, I want to thank everyone who keeps me up to date on all the teams. The Bears community is one of the best, and I’m proud to be a part of it.`

I’ll see you at the rink!

Oakland Bears Team Updates 🏒🐻

Bears 10B NORCAL Finalists

The Bears 10B squad went 3-0 in the NORCAL Round Robins to earn a spot in the Final. Facing Lake Tahoe, the Bears fell behind early, conceding two goals in the first period and another two in the second. Despite a strong push in the third with two goals of their own, the comeback fell just short. Now, they look ahead to the CAHA State Playoffs this weekend. Good luck, Bears!

Bears 12AA NORCAL Finalists

The Bears 12AA team went 0-2-1 in NORCAL Round Robin play, which was just enough to secure a spot in the Semifinal. What followed was a wild game against Sharks 12AA-3. Leading 6-5 late in the third, the Bears saw the Sharks tie it up with under a minute remaining. Then came overtime. And another overtime. And another! Finally, at 2:14 in the third OT, Mason Shelby (#47) buried the game-winner, sending the Bears to the Final against Sharks 12AA-1. Later that same day, an exhausted Bears squad fell to the well-rested Sharks team. Both teams now advance to the CAHA State Playoffs this weekend. Let’s go, Bears!

East Bay Bears JV-C Champions

The East Bay Bears JV-C team claimed the division championship with a big win over Tri Valley. Congratulations to the champs!

Oliver Welborn (#24) shows off his unique fashion sense with the trophy.

SHSHL All-Star Selections

A big shoutout to Tommy John and TJ Cronin for being selected to the Sharks High School Hockey League All-Star Team! They proudly represented the East Bay Bears on Team Frenzy at TechCU Arena last weekend.

Cal Hockey Update 🏒💪

Cal’s incredible season came to a tough end at Regionals with a 5-4 overtime loss to the University of Texas. Still, there’s plenty to be proud of—Cal finished the regular season with a historic 25-0 undefeated record and ended the year 27-0-2, including postseason play. General Manager Michele Cox says that the team will focus on staying healthier next season, as injuries were their biggest challenge heading into Playoffs and Regionals.
