Of mixed race and heritage, including Cuban, African, French, English, Burmese, Indian, Seychellian, and Spanish, Bears 14U Coach Jator grew up in the Bay Area. At age eleven, he started with the Berkeley Bears and has been playing ever since. Jator spent four years coaching 16U and 18U elite in Denmark. He also played for KSF and the Gentofte Stars.Jator is a health and wellness coach and a functional medicine practitioner. He has worked with athletes since 1999 on emotional intelligence, strength training, nutrition, lifestyle, and performance. “I came to Oakland Ice to give back to the community from which I came. Hockey has afforded me so much opportunity to travel, build life-long friendships, and play a sport where I adore every minute I am on the ice.” When asked about his approach to coaching youth hockey, Jator replied “I get to be a model of male emotional intelligence, groundedness, kindness, and compassion to help these young men see that they don’t have to be men only in stereotypical ways. I know what it is like to be them. I have been [a] rowdy, rambunctious, acting-out young man. I know what I did not receive from my coaches over the years, and I get the opportunity to do this differently with my team. I have so much love for my boys, and we have a blast.” One of the highlights of the 14A season last weekend was "when we were down in the games by multiple goals, and instead of yelling and screaming at each other, [the players] discussed what to do to get back into the game. They really worked together to come back. This was a huge shift from how they were before.” And to everyone at the rink, JP offers this, “I might look tough, mean, and serious, but please know that I am super soft, kind, and personable. I love interacting with everyone – players, parents, coaches, and managers. If you have questions about nutrition, health, or ice work I am happy to give my opinion and share. I want to see Oakland Bears grow into THE place to play hockey in Northern California, not only for on-ice development but all off-ice aspects as well.”
“Oakland Ice is home. I am super honored to be here. [We] are a family."
