Welcome back to the September edition of the Oakland Bears Newsletter. Preseason has begun! First off, hats off to Bears 14A. Once again, they bring home a banner and an awesome trophy to add to the case. That makes it back-to-back tournament wins! As much as I dislike VGK (Go Sharks!), I won't deny they're great tournament hosts and have one of the best trophies.

In other updates, Glenn and the OIC crew haven't been slacking this summer. One thing you'll notice is the Olympic side has a new coat of Sharks teal paint. Flip to the NHL side, and you'll spot Bears' black and gold striping—both on the walls and in the locker rooms.
Also, guess what's back? Tier hockey in Oakland! In this issue, we'll highlight Johnny Arruda, the new 18AA team captain. If you have a player who'd like to be featured in an upcoming issue, please click here. And don't think we forgot the adult league—Introducing the new Stanley Keg!
I'll see you at the rink,

From First Skate to Team Captain
Five years ago, our 17-year-old team captain was introduced to ice hockey through a friend who was already playing. "I just loved the game and every aspect of it," he tells us.
A Game-Winning Memory
One of his most memorable experiences? "Last year during a high school game I got the game winning goal in overtime to win a playoff game." A defining moment that he'll remember for year to come.
The Role of a Leader
As the captain, his influence is felt not just on the ice but in the locker room as well. "We’re all like brothers now. We respect each other and keep each other’s heads up," he shares. It's a leadership style built on mutual respect and emotional support.
A Rigorous Routine
When it comes to staying at the top of his game, team practices are the bare minimum "Aside from our weekly team practices, I practice a lot at home. I put on roller blades and practice stick handling and shooting on the street outside my house. I also go to the gym every day and Gretzky hours on a regular basis," he explains.
The Community Impact
Being a part of the Oakland Bears carries significant weight for him. "It means a lot. It’s got me to where’s I’m at today and taught me everything I know about ice hockey," he emphasizes, underlining the role the community has played in his life.
Words of Wisdom
For those new to the game, his advice is as direct as it gets. "It might be hard, but if you really want it, you have to put in the work."
